A uniquely Maryland “Chesapeake Bay Cottage” experience awaits your family at The Hideaway in Hays Beach! This is a great spot for both Vacation and to Work from Home/ Virtual School from Home. The property is 50 footsteps away from Hays Beach - private (non-public) sandy western shore of the Chesapeake Bay.

The Hideaway is only 8 miles from Maryland's original Capital, Historic St. Mary’s City and St. Mary’s College. This City is a living history museum (think Colonial Williamsburg, VA) a true gem waiting for you to discover it. Colonial history surrounds you as you walk the paths and experience what the first residents of Maryland did as they built their homes and businesses and established governing principles which influenced so much of what America is today.

Drive, hike or bike 5 miles to the South to tour beautiful and historic Point Lookout State Park, a Maryland State Park occupying Point Lookout, which is at the southernmost tip of a peninsula formed by the confluence of Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac River. There you will enjoy Civil War Museum/Marshland Nature Center, Ft. Lincoln reenactments, lighthouse, biking, picnic area, archery hunting and waterfowl hunting from designated blind spots, boating and fishing from a 710’ public pier. The state park preserves the site of an American Civil War prisoner of war camp and the Point Lookout Light, which was built in 1830.

    About Jocelyn and Gary Copeland

The Copeland's are a couple originally from West Virginia and Maryland. As a family of three, we enjoy spending time with our extended family in both St. Mary's county and other areas in Maryland, Florida and West Virginia.

Why Jocelyn and Gary Copeland chose Point Lookout

Hays Beach has been not only our favorite family vacation location for two years, it's also been a welcomed "retreat" from the daily pace of suburban Maryland life. It felt like a natural "next step" in our journey as a family to purchase The Hideaway in Hays Beach and share our experience with others.

  • The Home

    What makes this House unique

We are more at peace here than in any other place we have ever visited. The Hays Beach community is calm and neighborly and the expansive views of the Bay water and the forest and creek/lake are captivating. We live in a suburb of Washington DC and like many others, our days and weeks are filled with time spent in "the box" of an office, a house, a school and a car. Being outdoors is one thing. Being outdoors where our 360 degree view to the horizon is filled with the expanse of the Chesapeake Bay, tall forest and marshy creek, just takes your mind and heart out of "the box".

We enjoy the pace of this place, exploring Maryland's history, the natural environment which surrounds the property, the sounds of birds, tall trees, listening to the water, noticing how the beach changes, kayaking, taking photographs, collecting stones and sea glass, chasing crabs, walking back through the Creek, taking walks, riding bikes, meeting and talking with neighbors, watching our friends and families children explore nature, run and play and learn to crab -- we have just never had a "negative" experience here and always feel better after having visited.

    You likely will too.
